The Basics
How do I get started working with you?
First, book your free 20 min consultation online here. If during the consultation both you and your therapist determine a good fit, you can email your therapist to confirm that you’d like to begin services. You’ll complete your intake paperwork and assessments via an online client portal - and we’ll get started!
Is there work required outside of our sessions?
Therapy sessions are designed to provide insight, structure, and resources. A treatment plan is made and agreed upon with you. The treatment plan requires your input and investment to take steps towards growth in and outside the session. Similar to going to physical therapy or working with a trainer, the amount of progress you achieve is based on time and effort put into the process.
do you offer online appointments?
Yes, we offer convenient HIPAA-compliant video virtual appointments.
how many sessions should I expect to have?
The type of treatment goals, number of goals, willingness to actively participate in treatment, and the length of time the issues or concerns have been present can indicate the length of the episode of care. On average, short-term clients complete between 8-10 sessions and more long term care can be 6 months to a year or more.
Common Concerns
I’m not sure if the investment of therapy will pay off.
Most couples report feeling more positive about the relationship prognosis after completing initial questionnaires and committing to start therapy. Assessment is itself an intervention.
It feels like if I commit to therapy, I am admitting I’m broken or have failed.
Similar to going to the doctor/dentist yearly to address overall health, our mind needs similar maintenance, preventive care, and treatment to help with optimization and wellness.
I’m afraid that focusing on the past or dredging up painful memories will be counter productive.
Although a portion of therapy does focus on the past it is to put the present into context. The majority of therapy will be looking at these patterns and identifying new perspectives, behaviors, and tools for present situations.
i’m afraid of being evaluated/pathologized or judged by my therapist.
Therapists are not invested in making you do anything, but rather creating a space for clients to look honestly at themselves and their relationships. This allows clients to decide what is not working for them. When therapists provide that space without judgment and hold accountability, this is what will create the most radical change. Therapists are not going to engage with you like a friend, family member, or partner might by trying to control you or convince you.
