Freyja Lentz, M.A.
Associate Marriage and Family Therapist
In life, we can feel stuck, lost, and without a way forward. Maybe you feel controlled by your emotions, unable to understand yourself, or struggle to be in reciprocal loving relationships.
I am here to help find resiliency, solutions, and hope amidst the darkness. I use a collaborative and holistic approach to build on the strengths you already have and continually adjust my approach to fit your needs and goals.
I work to build a safe and warm environment for clients to be vulnerable, honest, and try new things, all while listening and respecting client’s process. The safe collaborative relationship allows for growth, hope, and new aspects of self to blossom.
Freyja is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist supervised by Hanna Stensby, LMFT. She works with Individuals, couples, families, older adults, teens, children. Freyja is especially skilled at working relationally, helping couples and families to move from conflict to understanding, disconnection to connection, and from pain to relief. She loves working with ADHD, shame, self-esteem, relational issues, depression, and those recovering from PTSD. Her ideal client is motivated to grow and wants to take action to change their life, but might not know how and feels stuck.
She uses a combination of therapeutic approaches, including EMDR, Breathwork, Mindfulness, DBT, Narrative Therapy, and The Gottman Method. She brings her plethora of experience with trauma recovery, substance abuse recovery, and healing from anxiety and depression to her work. She helps you find and embody your strengths so problems feel more manageable and new solutions can come to light.
What to expect when working with me
I have a holistic and integrative approach to healing and therapy. I hold in mind that not one healing modality fits all, and that most talk therapy was built in Western philosophy. I am focused on building client strengths and confidence, and helping clients view their problems in a way that empowers them to take action instead of feeling like frustrated victims of their life.
I view change as happening when clients are first able to imagine new possibilities, and then embody those relationships and connections that are meaningful and fulfilling. I use a combination of narrative, solution-focused, and somatic therapy, as well as integrating dialectical behavioral skills and a trauma informed lens. I also enjoy collaboratively and openly sharing knowledge and ideas with clients to come to new conclusions and spark new insights.
I help clients find compassion in themselves through courageously exploring the emotions, memories, and processes that are usually hidden. I create a safe place to get curious, and in that open, compassionate curiosity, clients begin to see their problems and selves differently, relate to others in more fulfilling ways, and new stories about the self and world emerge.
As new strength based stories are written and embodied, problems feel more manageable and new solutions can come to light.
I believe people already have all the skills they need. I help clients recognize and build their own resiliency, get to know themselves better, and find ways to be present in their body. I bring humor and my own humanity into my work, and strive to both challenge and support clients in their growth..
I practice cultural humility, meaning I recognize that it is impossible to know everything about anyone’s culture, and am dedicated to continually learning, and am humbled by what I learn. As a cis-gender white woman, I am aware of my privileges and am consciously working to understand other ethnicities and cultural experiences, both inside and outside the therapy room
I do this work because I know how transformative it is to have someone who both supports and challenges you when you are walking through dark uncertain times. So rarely do we have spaces to be honest and look at the things that scare us most, and in that courageous work is where so much healing happens. I am lucky enough to have gone through so many deep variations of my own healing early on, giving me the ability to sit with clients in their suffering, and still hold hope for change and growth.
