How Online Therapy Works

What ARE THE BENEFITS OF ONLINE THERAPY?

Online therapy is an affordable, convenient, form of treatment that can make it more accessible for folx who are balancing busy schedules, have children at home, or feel more comfortable in their own homes.

Many people prefer online therapy because it allows you to set up your ideal environment for your therapy session. You can light a candle, have your pet with you, or be snuggled up on your bed.

Online therapy offers flexibility for you to do therapy your way.

For many folx, being at home feels safer and allows them to open up more and dive deeper into exploring themselves.

Online Couples therapy helps you to navigate conflict and relationship patterns that most often occur in your home. Working through these issues in a healthy way with the support of a therapist at home can help you feel more confident in your ability to maintain progress and new skills because you already know you can do it.

Online therapy allows for flexibility for you to choose your therapist based on factors that matter for your therapy outcomes rather than where the office is located.

how Effective Is Online Therapy?

There are many studies showing that therapy delivered by phone or video is effective for treating depression, adjustment disorder, and anxiety (Varker, T., et al., Psychological Services, Vol. 16, No. 4, 2019).

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has also conducted research comparing online therapy PTSD interventions to in person treatment and found the two methods to be equally effective in the majority of cases. (Turgoose, D., et al., Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare, Vol. 24, No. 9, 2018).

How We Keep Online Therapy Safe and Secure

At Flourish Mindset, we use HIPAA compliant platforms for video, email, scheduling, and phone calls. When participating in online therapy it is suggested that you find a safe private space that is confidential for your session. Therapists at Flourish Mindset operate in accordance with all California laws and regulations.

IS ONLINE INDIVIDUAL THERAPY OR COUPLES THERAPY RIGHT FOR ME?

If your partner is willing to attend therapy and you would like to focus on relationship dynamics then couples therapy i s likely the best fit. Sometimes the therapist sees that it is most effective to start with individual therapy first to address individual issues or build skills prior to starting couples therapy. Other times clients are in both individual and couples therapy. When this is the case, clients are usually recommended to fill out a Release of Information form so all therapists involved with treatment can collaborate and be most effective.

WHAT DOES ONLINE COUPLES THERAPY LOOK LIKE?

You meet with a licensed therapist for virtual sessions addressing the relationship concerns you have. Together you work towards the goals you have for the relationship (ex. managing conflict more effectively, increasing intimacy, spending more quality time together, viewing different perspectives with empathy, identifying strengths in the relationship, and building friendship).

All sessions are conducted via HIPPA Compliant video platforms.

DO YOU OFFER ONLINE PREMARITAL COUNSELING?

Yes! We provide the #1 premarital and marriage assessment tool and curriculum, using evidence-based skills and insights to foster healthy relationships. PREPARE/ENRICH helps couples be proactive in identifying areas of growth in their relationship and utilizing their strengths to build a strong foundation for their marriage.

WHAT IS ONLINE SEX THERAPY?

Sex therapy is a specialized form of therapy for individuals and couples that integrates traditional talk therapy with a focus on sexual health and wellbeing. Through video sessions you will explore with your therapist what your sexual experience has been like, areas that cause distress, and what you would like to get from the therapy.

Sex therapy is for anyone looking for a safe space to discuss their thoughts, feelings, insecurities, questions, concerns, experiences, and beliefs about sex, sexuality, one’s body, gender, aging, porn, and messages received about these topics from society, peers, partners, and parents.

HOW DOES ONLINE EMDR THERAPY WORK?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), is a type of structured and brief individual therapy that is proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences. The main difference between online EMDR and in-person is the way the bilateral stimulation is delivered. When in person, the therapist will use either their hand, a light bar, or hand-held tapping devices . During remote EMDR therapy, the client will either self-tap, or use an online software that allows for eye movements oor auditory tones provided by the therapist.
